Listen up! If you learn anything important today, let it be that these starburst stitch braids are just as sweet as they sound. I simply cannot tell you how much love I have for these braids. They have extreme “main character in a ’90s romcom” energy, and tbh, everyone deserves to harness that vibe once in a while. Pair this with a fun makeup look and it’s game over—you’ve won. In this week’s episode of The Braid Up, Latosha Star is the mastermind behind these starburst braid’s perfect execution.

Ready to try this style on for size? Make sure to keep these tips in mind:

1. Prep. Prep. Prep. Before you even sit down in that salon chair, you’ve gotta make sure your scalp and hair are well taken care of. Try out a deep-conditioning mask and a soothing scalp oil before your appointment. Your hair will truly thank you.

2. Use pre-stretched braiding hair. Did you know that you’re not always getting the full potential out of your kanekalon braiding extensions? Some packs require you to stretch the hair out for added length, but who wants more work? Buy hair that’s pre-streched to avoid that step all together.

3. Leave out a couple of strands in front. I have a very important statement. I truly feel that we as a society don’t appreciate the added pizzaz of hair tendrils enough. Keep a couple pieces of hair loose in front to style them separately while you have these braids in.

4. Don’t leave your braids in for longer than six to eight weeks. You really don’t want your braids to stretch out, break, or damage your new growth. Reminder! The point of a protective style is to protect!
