Say No to the Dress—Elegant Wedding Pants and Suits for the Modern Bride

More and more brides are trading in layered tulle ball gowns and slinky sheaths for elegant wedding pants and suits. At her recent micro wedding in Los Angeles, stylist Taryn Shumway joined the ranks of brides who wore pants. At Sunset Tower, she tied the knot while wearing lace-trimmed trousers and a silky open-back blouse by Danielle Frankel, a bridal designer known for creating modern pieces that can be worn more than once, long after the big day. “The halter top was a flattering shape on my shoulders, and the detail of the lace down the pants was exquisite,” Shumway explained. “Plus, it was pants! I was so comfortable all night.”

Selecting a pair of pants that feels worthy of such a special occasion requires a bit of strategy. A wedding look should be extra ordinary, after all. Look for options in those elevated fabrics that give bridal gowns their magic—a duchess satin or a luxurious taffeta. Secondly, don’t forget about the trimmings. Christopher Kane’s crystal-embellished pants and blazers and those feather-adorned sets by 16Arlington are just as glamorous as any gown. And do play with proportions—have fun pairing trousers with a micro-mini dress or a maxi-length camisole.
