Sandy Liang’s ultrafeminine designs and bow-filled adornments have dominated the fashion world since 2014, quickly rising as a cult-favorite brand spotted on celebrities and It girls everywhere. After expanding her kitschy techniques via phone accessories, balletcore footwear, and other highly sought-after (and, of course, sold-out) collaborations, the New York City–based designer is launching into the home space for the first time.

Her inaugural interiors foray is an assortment of 12 items—ranging from apparel and aprons to lighters and rugs—that take cozy cottagecore cues and make playing dress-up fun for the kid at heart. As seen in newly released campaign images shot by Jeannie Sui Wonders at Manhattan’s iconic Plaza Hotel, pajamas and intimates make up most of the collection: Dainty baby rosette appliqués are found on midi dresses, stretchy elastic pants, puff-sleeve tops, and lightweight knickers. Frilly hems and pointelle patterns embellish smocked aprons and are available in navy, gingham, and cream colorways.

Apparel aside, Sandy’s home collection has two standout pieces: a hand-tufted wool runner in dark green with giant pink ribbon detailing and a classic coconut doormat. The mini rug, a refillable chrome lighter, and the Contessa Apron are all engraved with the phrase that inspired it all: “I’m going to be my own kind of princess.”

The designer tells Clever that, like her clothes, her new line sprinkles inspiration taken from parts of her life, featuring references to Ina Garten and Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette—particularly the morning bedroom scenes. She also took cues from a hotel she stayed at in Rome: a stainless steel appliance that said [the word] princess on it.

The downtown darling’s move into the home space is fitting; after all, she has a keen eye for decor—her Lower East Side storefront included—and this collection kicks off more to come. Sandy Liang’s new line is now available exclusively on her site, with prices ranging from $65 to $1,295. Below, Sandy speaks about the pieces, the concept of home, and her favorites from the drop.

What do you first think of when you think of the word home? How did you incorporate those things or any specific memories into the collection?

When I think of home, I think of relaxing, cozy, and nesting. I love changing into comfy clothes as soon as I get home, and I adore the versatility of the pajamas. They’re pieces that I would wear out just as much as I would wear in.

Did you always see the brand eventually launching into this space? How long did the process take, and what went into it?

It started with my love affair with aprons. I don’t know why I’ve always been obsessed with them, but I love aprons in all shapes, colors, and sizes. That easily led to the idea of making more outfits for home. This was a fun little first foray into it, but I’d love to develop it further.

Do you have any favorite standouts from the collection? Do any items live in your home right now?

I’ve been living with the doormat and runner in my apartment for a while now! It’s been fun to be the first tester. I can’t wait to get the pajamas and aprons too. I always make a mess in the kitchen and am excited to have something pretty to wipe my hands on!
