A Brand New Take On Summer Beach Dressing

In Vogue’s June/July issue, Hailey Bieber delivers a new take on beach dressing. Think sand-friendly classics like caftans, espadrilles, and straw hats, and then think again! For Bieber’s day at the beach, it’s all about a laid-back luxury rooted in Southern California, but with hints of somewhere more far-flung. We’re sensing a bit of the Caribbean, the Aeolian Islands, and even some earlier era, like, the 1990s?

Sure, she’ll wear a preppy gingham bikini, but she’ll pair it with a bohemian beaded skirt. And in lieu of a linen cover-up, Bieber reaches for a graphic checkerboard tee that bursts with color. With no-makeup makeup and wavy hair, Bieber isn’t so much dressed for the beach as she is equipped to simply have it all this summer. She accessorizes with chunky knitted hats, Tombolos, summer camp-like jewelry filled with puka and cowry shells. It all serves as a reminder that, this summer, the world is our oyster.

With reemergence on the horizon, the world no longer needs to be muted. Instead, piling on the print and pairing bold, graphic pieces together is encouraged. Much like the retro Dos Swim bikini top and Gucci vest seen here on Bieber. On her head, she wears a hat by Missoni; around her neck, a Serendipitous Project necklace.

This summer, opt for monochrome dressing in a jolt of joy-inducing color. Bieber’s Eckhaus Latta shrunken polo plays nicely with a leopard-print-accented Moschino Couture skirt.

The carefree attitude of summer means hiked-up hemlines are having their moment in the sun. For Bieber, life’s a beach in a beaded Blumarine skirt and a gingham-checked Peony bikini top. She finishes it all off with a shell and stone embellished necklace and oversized button-up camp shirt.

The verdict is out—we can’t get enough of checkerboard patterns in every which way. Bieber considers them on a black-and-white sequined mini-skirt and on a sweater by The Elder Statesmen.

With her pup Oscar, Bieber exudes laid-back chic in a bright pink Givenchy minidress with a purple tie-dyed sweater by The Elder Statesman around her waist. Tie-dye anchors Bieber’s colorful outfit—the playful pattern has become a new neutral embraced by even the most minimalist of dresses.

Geometric patterns like checkers (seen here on Bieber’s slinky Versace knit) and pinwheels (on this delightful Emily Levine hat) get revived for 2021 in knit and crocheted iterations. In saturated colors, these pieces are meant to be mixed and matched.
