Harry Styles and dermatologists can agree on one thing: the power of watermelon. It’s not just a delicious summer treat—it’s also a powerhouse of a beauty ingredient. “Watermelon has a high water content, but also contains a lot of nutrients for the skin such as vitamin A, C and E, beta carotene and lycopene—all beneficial for skin,” says Sofie Pavitt, Aesthetician and Founder of Sofie Pavitt Studio. “Lycopene helps protect the skin from sun damage for example. Vitamin C is brightening and helps protect against pigment damage.”
With all those beauty perks, it’s no surprise that watermelon has been raging all season. “As summer rolls around we think of bright, fun ingredients to incorporate into our routines,” Pavitt says. “Watermelon is a natural hydrator so it’s great for lightweight moisture properties for the skin. It also has been used for a long time in Korean skincare, which is always trending!”
Even chowing down on watermelon can help deliver its beauty benefits. “Eating watermelon helps nurture the skin from the inside out,” Pavitt says. “It’s great ingested or applied topically through a product. The high water content makes sure you’re hydrated!”
