Former first lady Melania Trump will make a rare public appearance Friday during a naturalization ceremony in the nation’s capital—one of only a handful of appearances she’s made in her post-White House life as her husband faces multiple prosecutions ahead of the 2024 election.

Melania Trump will speak at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., on Friday, during a naturalization ceremony to commemorate Bill of Rights Day.

The former first lady was personally invited by U.S. Archivist Colleen Shogan to speak at the event where 25 immigrants will be sworn in as U.S. citizens, a spokesperson for the National Archives told CNN.

The former president was supportive of Melania Trump’s decision to take part in Friday’s event, an unnamed source told CNN.

Melania Trump, who was born in Slovenia, became a U.S. citizen in 2006 and is the second first lady to be born outside the U.S., after Louisa Catherine Johnson Adams, the wife of former President John Quincy Adams.

Melania Trump’s public appearance comes as her husband faces four separate criminal prosecutions in Florida, Georgia, Washington, D.C., and New York. She’s mostly remained mum since her husband left office, but has largely backed him. She released one statement after her husband was indicted and charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records over alleged hush money payments earlier this year. In the cryptic statement Melania accused news organizations over making assumptions about her “personal, professional and political” stance on unnamed subjects. There were some reports at the time she was angry about Trump’s indictment. Besides that statement, Melania has only made a handful of public appearances since her husband left office including last month, where she appeared alongside all the other living former first ladies at Rosalynn Carter’s funeral.
