Shortly before the fall 2023 Coach show began at the Park Avenue Armory today, guests watched as a stylish guest was suddenly swarmed with iPhones and cameras. Who was hidden beneath all those flashes? That would be none other than Lil Nas X. (Cue: “Montero”)!

While the star walked in the Coach runway show last season, the star opted to take in designer Stuart Vevers’s new collection from a front row vantage point this time around. Clad in a cropped red shearling coat from the label, he looked the part of a VIP guest. “I wanted to give a pink-red Valentine’s Day moment,” the star told Vogue of his look, just one day ahead of the holiday. (His ensemble also included a complementary pink turtleneck, distressed flared jeans, and a red shearling bag to match.)

After the Vevers’s fresh assortment of leather skirts, distressed jeans, and big shearling coats came down the catwalk, Vogue caught five minutes with the rapper backstage. Read on below for the star’s thoughts on the new collection, what his Valentine’s Day plans are, and (most importantly) if he’s releasing any new music for us soon.

Vogue: So what did you think of the new Coach collection?

Lil Nas X: I loved the show! I thought it was very cool, calm, flirty, and colorful. I like all of those things.

What were some of your favorite looks you could see yourself wearing?

There was a metallic yellow look that I liked a lot. And the [shearling] coats were really cute. And all of the leather.

You wereonthe runway last season. Do you prefer being in the show, or watching it?

It’s different because the runway last season was a lot. This one was more down to earth, in terms of setting. So, maybe a little bit of both.

Tell me about your own look for the show. I love it. What did you want it to give?

I wanted to give a pink-red Valentine’s Day moment. I even have a lollipop. I feel very petite and pretty in this coat.

What are your big Valentine’s Day plans tomorrow?

I have no Valentine’s Day plans yet—but I’m gonna find me a temporary boyfriend by then, and it’s gonna be cute.

I just read that you’re playing Governor’s Ball this summer. Can you tell us anything?

I’m going to bring Montero. It’s going to be major. I can’t tell you everything, though—you’re going to love it.

Are you working on new music for it?

Absolutely. I’m working steady. I’m in this next phase of figuring out who this next person is for me. I’m not going out in the same clothes as my last era, or the one before that. I’m figuring that out, and learning to trust my own instincts.

You’ve dabbled in fashion design, having workedwith Christian CowanandMSCHF. Is that something you want to continue doing going forward?

Of course. I definitely want to start my own line.  I want to bring something brand new to the industry. I don’t know exactly what that is yet, but when we get there, I know that everybody’s gonna love it.

Does this mean we’re going to see you at any more shows this Fashion Month?

You might see me pop out!
