Shirley Cook’s line, Dyvna, is inspired by the strong matriarchs of her family. Her grandmother, the namesake to Cook’s label, raised her two children alone in Belgrade while her husband fought the Nazi regime. Her mother, Mika, was a national athlete in Yugoslavia until the age of 16, when she snuck out of the country to join her family in New York.
