Why the ‘Love Island USA’ Premiere Was So Delayed on Peacock

Love Island USA premiered last night and was…late to its own party. The show was supposed to air at 9:00 pm eastern time, but hadn’t started as of 9:01 when Peacock tweeted “WE GOT A TEXT! Tonight’s episode will be slightly delayed. But it is worth the wait Stay tuned! #LoveIslandUSA.”

Love Island didn’t end up premiering for 40 full minutes, and if you’re wondering why, there’s (unconfirmed!) speculation that Peacock suffered a technical glitch due to fans in Canada reporting that the show premiered as planned on CTV. And obviously, the internet didn’t take it well:

A lot to process here.

As a reminder, this year’s cast includes (so far!) Huda Mustafa, Olandria Carthen, Belle-A Walker, Yulissa Escobar, Chelley Bissainthe, Nicolas Vansteenberghe, Taylor Williams, Austin Shepard, Ace Green, and Jeremiah Brown. Oh, and of course Ariana Madix is hosting, while Iain Stirling is narrating.

Per Peacock’s official description: “Season 7 will introduce a brand new roster of singles, new additions to the vibrant Fiji villa, and the return of the infamous Casa Amor. Temptations will rise and drama will ensue as Islanders face brand new couples’ challenges, jaw-dropping twists and turns, and even a few surprise guests. Once again, viewers will be able to vote for their favorite couples via the Love Island USA app to determine which Islanders will recouple, who will remain in the villa, and who goes home heartbroken.”
