Elderly women in their 70s and 80s living at Kingswood Retirement Village in Newlands in Pretoria east recently enjoyed a fashion show and tea party.
The fashion show was designed to make them feel beautiful and appreciated. The women looked amazing and some senior ladies were also models.
We organised this classy event to give back to our senior citizens in the community. Three of the ladies from Kingswood also assisted us in the modelling of the clothes.
She said she was glad because three elderly women in their 80s were dressed up for the occasion and formed part of the models.
I have been working with the elderly for almost seven years. And I have become extremely fond of them and built relationships with them.
People think that senior residents are old because of their ID numbers and should be excluded, however in actual fact, they are just as young as us on the inside, their exteriors have just changed.
She said the ladies really appreciated this and felt young and alive again.
The three elderly models did it with so much flair and confidence. It was a lot of fun seeing them enjoying it. The other senior residents absolutely loved it and thought it was really done with a lot of style and elegance, De Andrade told Rekord.
She said the clothing was sponsored by House of Superior Clothing, and Ronel Bezuidenhout from Capital Hotel School encouraged and recited a poem for the women to honour them. De Andrade pleads with the community to get involved in more projects to revive the spirit of elderly citizens to make their days happier.
