High buns are an adorable way to keep your hair looking right while also keeping it up and out of the way. I mean, who doesn’t want to be at the perfect cross-section of practicality and ~serving looks~? This is exactly why braided stitch buns are so great. Everyone’s fave stitch-braid pattern feeds into this fun updo, which we affectionately refer to as “stitch buns with love” 😍😍.

In this week’s episode of The Braid Up, protective-style pro Nastacia Crooks-Brady shows us just how stellar this look can be, while also laying some of the most artful edges I think I’ve ever seen. Very impressed.

1. Prep your curls with a deep-conditioner. Fact: Dry hair sucks. But thankfully, there’s an easy fix: deep-conditioning masks. A deep-conditioning treatment will help lock healthy moisture into your hair and save it from the perils of brittleness.

2. Use a wide-tooth comb. Not only is a comb with wide teeth less painful to use on your natural knots, but they also minimize breakage. Start detangling at your ends, then work your way up to the roots for a nice, tangle-free head of hair.

3. Set the style. The fresh feeling of mousse on your scalp after a long braiding sesh has gotta rank among the top 10 most satisfying things in existence. Smooth a dollop of mousse over your new look, then blast it with a hair dryer to set it.

4. Sleep on a satin pillowcase. Obviously sleeping in a silk headscarf is a great way to help your style last longer, but for an added protective measure, a silk or satin pillowcase is key. Not only are they great bedroom decor, but they aren’t harsh on hair if your bonnet (annoyingly) slips off.
