Victoria Beckham On Her Most Affordable Collection to Date

Victoria Beckham’s collaboration with The Outnet coincides with the consolidation of her luxury and subdivision lines into one mega brand that has twice the impact and outreach. The savvy businesswoman has teamed up with other labels before—Reebok, Target, Estée Lauder—but this time around, she has delved into her own archives to create something uniquely special and affordable for her fans.

The 25-piece collection of VB fashion hits (classic oversized shirting, sleek tailoring, chunky knitwear) is predominantly made from materials we have already witnessed within the designer’s world. “This was an opportunity for us to reuse and repurpose excess fabric in a new, exciting way,” Beckham tells Vogue. “We’re always looking for ways in which we can be more responsible with our collections and creatively challenge ourselves; this collaboration with The Outnet allowed us to do both of those things”.

To be clear: the clothes, realized in VB’s usual palette of tobacco browns, military greens and classic navys with pops of pink, mustard and cobalt, are not reruns. “We’ve reimagined some of our signature silhouettes with new design details,” Beckham promises of spicing up her effortlessly luxurious aesthetic with new accents. “It’s a celebration of our past with a future thinking approach.”

Musing on her decade-plus in the industry and the legacy she is shaping for herself, she says, “I think what I’ve created over the past 13 years is a true modern wardrobe.” More than elegant dresses and elevated menswear-inspired separates, Beckham’s niche is the pockets of fun she sews into her fashion. “There’s always an element of playfulness, a slight eccentricity, whether that’s a unique print or a bright, unexpected color somewhere it wouldn’t typically be used,” she adds. “I don’t take myself too seriously and neither do my designs.”

What Beckham is starting to take seriously is her approach to sustainability. As well as reducing her brand’s output, she is learning to see her deadstock in a new light, even feeling nostalgic. “I’m always drawn to the ’70s and you’ll see subtle nods to that in some of the silhouettes and color palette,” she says of her new-old edit for The Outnet.

Beckham also felt that she was in safe hands, having worked with the shopping platform before. She chose The Outnet as the host of a personal sale raising money for the charity mothers2mothers in 2014, and the price point seemed fair for her new democratic brand proposition.
