Hello, it’s me, the sweatiest sleeper on Cosmopolitan’s editorial staff. Here’s a quick Q&A to get you caught up on just how sweaty I am:

Q: Have you always been sweaty?

A: Yes, in the daytime and the nighttime.

Q: How many times per week do you wake up in the middle of the night drenched in your own sweat?

A: About 2-5 times per week.

Q: Why do you sweat so much?

A: Hormones, probably, but I also might think about the time I performed “slam poetry” in fourth grade a little too often.

Q: What is your signature move in bed?

A: Sticking one entire leg outside of the comforter to regulate my internal thermometer.

I experienced great fortune when the generous people at Eight Sleep reached out to me about testing their Pod Pro mattress cover, which regulates the temperature of your bed to your dream degree and tracks health and sleep metrics while you’re snoozing. Here’s a little preview of what it looks like:

You know you want a vibrating bed. Link in bio to shop! #sleep #mattress #hotflash #nightsweats #productreview @eight.sleep

It’s 10 p.m. on a Wednesday and you’re tired after applying your skincare routine in the right order(?). You’re approaching sleepy time, so you throw on your PJs (read: that T-shirt you still have from high school choir) and slide into bed. The temperature in your musty apartment is akin to a gym sock, but that mattress is a popsicle, baby. Wanna know why? Because you told it to be that temperature on an app in your phone.

As I mentioned in the TikTok above, you connect the hydro-powered mattress cover to the Eight Sleep app, where you take a short quiz on your sleeping preferences. It can take on a cooler, warmer, or neutral temperature profile depending on what you’re into, as long as the number in your head falls between 55° and 110°F. Your journey starts with your bedtime temperature, which your mattress will reach 30 minutes before you normally hit the sack. The temperature of the Pod fluctuates throughout the night to follow your circadian rhythm: It is the coldest upon entry, less cold while you’re in deep sleep, neutral during REM sleep, and warmest right before you wake up.

While other cooling mattress covers or blankets are only capable of hitting one universal temperature, the Eight Sleep Pod Pro allows you to send an invitation to your bed buddy so they can choose exactly how their zone feels. For example, my boyfriend doesn’t like to sleep on a sheet of ice, so his zone is a little warmer than mine. The app also gives you the option to be woken up with a vibrating sensation. This feature is also zone-dependent, so your partner won’t feel a thing if you choose to turn it on for your side of the bed, and vice versa.

But not in an overtly creepy way. The mattress tracks your HRV (heart rate variability) and your respiratory rate, which are two health metrics that you’ll find on most fitness trackers or smartwatches. It also tracks sleep metrics, such as sleep performance, consistency, and tosses and turns. All of this feeds into your Daily Sleep Fitness Score, which you get to see every morning. This score is meant to help you make better choices about your sleep schedule that will help you feel better in the long run. You’re encouraged to try the sleep meditations on the Eight Sleep app to hit your new goals as well.

It is definitely an investment piece

It’s completely valid that you can skip paying nearly $2,000 by buying a cooling comforter, cooling sheets, a big-ass fan, or by sleeping nude (I won’t judge), but if you have some cash to blow and want to make better sleep a priority, this is where you want to spend it. I may still be a mess, but at least I’m not a sweaty one.
