Your shoes are not the only things that get a good beating in the monsoon. Your hair comes in a close second. Monsoon can be brutal on our strands – men, women, straight, curly – humidity doesn’t discriminate. From out-of-control frizz to limp and listless hair, your mane needs extra attention and TLC during this time to revitalise and revamp it.
But first, here are a few
monsoon grooming basics to remember and follow irrespective of your hair type – wash your hair often using a mild and hydrating shampoo and conditioner. Anti-frizz leave-in serums are your friend, dry shampoos come in handy for SOS situations, introduce a clarifying shampoo into your regime, and an occasional oil massage will keep your strands healthy.
“Moisture is curly hair’s best friend,” says Sharma. “The more moisture you can retain in your hair, the tamer and frizz-free it stays. Use a smooth masque post shampoo. Once you rinse your hair, don’t towel-dry your hair comb it. Let it dry naturally. End with the Moroccanoil Curl Defining Cream.”
A relatively easy concern to deal with, Sharma says that “to maintain bounce and create movement in the hair, use a good root lift spray or a mousse.” This will pump up fine strands that often get limp and lifeless during the monsoons and give them a much-needed boost. Choose between a spray and mousse based on your hair texture – if you have thin hair, mousse could be a bit heavy. But for those of you with thick hair, it can double as a conditioner.
Sharma suggests a DIY method to treat an oily scalp and scalp build-up. “Apply diluted apple cider vinegar with water in 1:1 ratio, and massage your hair mildly 15 minutes before shampooing it. Using an oil-controlling purifying shampoo like the Loreal Professionnel Pure Resource will help too.”
“There are several reasons for why hair becomes dry and brittle. A few of them include dehydration and Vitamin D3 deficiency. It goes without saying that you should drink a good amount of water to keep yourself hydrated. Products with ample hydration will come to your rescue, like the Moroccanoil Hydrating Weightless Masque.”
