Prince George accompanied the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for England’s Six Nations match against Wales on Saturday at Twickenham Stadium. As Prince William and Kate Middleton’s eldest son, Prince George has been to football matches with his parents before. William is a patron of Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and Middleton stans for England. They’re frequently on opposite sides of sporting rivalries, but it’s all in good fun.

Middleton was wearing a scarf in her team’s colors as she explained the game to George. The eight-year-old was wearing a red and navy puffer jacket and brought a stuffed toy to view the festivities with him.

Middleton also wore a houndstooth patterned Knightsbridge Coat from Holland Cooper over a high-necked black sweater, while the duke wore a black sweater over a white button down shirt with a red tie.

Middleton was attending her first match since becoming patron of Rugby Football Union (RFU), a role that formerly went to her brother-in-law Prince Harry, before he moved to California with wife Meghan Markle. After Middleton’s patronage was announced, a source told the Daily Mail, “[The Duke and Duchess] are famously competitive with each other and this will be no different – probably even more so now that they have an invested interest in the outcome of the game.”

The Duchess is also a royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

On Saturday, the Duke and Duchess also took time to tweet a personal message to Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, writing, “In October 2020 we had the privilege to meet President Zelenskyy and the First Lady to learn of their hope and optimism for Ukraine’s future.”

“Today we stand with the President and all of Ukraine’s people as they bravely fight for that future,” they concluded, adding their initials and an emoji of the Ukrainian flag.
