I know what you’re thinking; “aren’t Adidas Sambas a bit…old school?” I was right there with you until I saw them taking up residence on the feet of Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid.
These girls are the Holy Trinity behind fashion trends of late, so when they officially declare something ‘cool’, you listen. Naturally, since this retro trainer became their casual go-to, they’ve been flying off the shelves of every retailer.
Fashion trainers are, to the style set, one of the main pillars of a successful wardrobe. Rarely is a new design added to the roster of favourites, but Sambas aren’t new. Originally brought to life by founder Adi Dassler all the way back in the 1940s as lace-up hard-surface soccer shoes/football shoes, the smooth leather and suede design reached peak popularity in the 70s and 80s for wearability, affordability and durability. The comfortable gum-rubber outsole and unisex size guide is what made them most appealing, and now? It’s still very much the same.
New Balance, Nike and Axel Arigato aside, Adidas is having a real moment and, alongside its other popular silhouettes – the Gazelle, the Adidas Originals Superstar and the Stan Smith – Sambas are top of everyone’s wishlist. But where can you buy them? You might need to set your re-stock notifications for the most popular shades, but there are plenty of other hues to sink your teeth into if you can’t wait.
